The Energy Education Council was established in 1952, bringing together a diverse group of organizations who work collaboratively on mutually important issues. The EEC is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization headquartered within the University of Illinois Extension. Council members include investor-owned electric utilities, cooperatives, municipal utilities, educators and others who share the mission to provide life-saving and energy-saving information and resources.
From 4-H youth education to consumer-friendly web sites to business workshops and seminars, the Council seeks to meet the educational needs of consumers and the electric industry. The EECís award-winning Safe Electricity program has grown to include almost 400 utility partners and sponsors reaching millions of consumers in 32 states. With the increasing emphasis on energy efficiency and environmental benefits from conservation, the Council is expanding efficiency information efforts to aid in public awareness.
